Heavy Hitters June: Sekou Andrews

As the creator of the "poetic voice" speaking category, Sekou Andrews has built a 7-figure company on poetry. His accomplishments include two National Poetry Slam championships, two national poetry tours, two Independent Music Awards, three Helen Hayes Awards, the 2020 ABA "Entrepreneur of the Year" award, the most "Just Plain Folks" music awards in history, and the first "Best Spoken Word Album" Grammy nomination for a poet in 12 years. His mission is to help pioneer a more commercially viable industry for spoken word whereby poets can make a purposeful and profitable living from their art.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Making Art Work: The Business of Being An Artist

As Sekou’s Heavy Hitters feature falls almost on the exact day that he quit his last job as a schoolteacher 18 years ago, he will celebrate his anniversary by sharing his secrets for how he has sustained a successful career as full-time poet for almost 2 decades. You will learn valuable strategies for how to find clients and customers for your art, how to price your art and build your perceived value, how to make sure you get “paid” for every booking, how to build and lead an effective team, and how to make sure your art doesn’t become a job you hate. Whether you’re an artist, of any type, who wants to learn the secrets of making a living off of your art, or you’re a fan who wants to be inspired by an exclusive performance of Sekou’s top poems (as well as some exclusive peeks at upcoming releases), you DO NOT want to miss this session!
