Heavy Hitters July: Da Poetry Lounge
Da Poetry Lounge is a poetry venue at the Greenway Court Theatre, Los Angeles. We have been in operation since 1998. The ultimate goal of DPL is to create a communal space for people to be heard. We celebrate poetry in all forms, and welcome all those who are courageous enough to share their stories or are willing to support others that do. Visit DPL every Tuesday and be part of what has become the largest weekly open mic in America! Poets who’ve committed to the DPL showcase include host Shihan Van Clief, Yesika Salgado, Taalam Acey, Aman K. Batra, Jasmine Williams, Edwin Bodney, and 4-time Individual World Poetry Slam Champion Ed Mabrey.
The DPL Showcase will be followed up with a workshop from S.L.A.M. (Spoken Literature Art Movement), led by Alyesha Wise and Matthew Cuban Hernandez.
Spoken Literature Art Movement (S.L.A.M.) was created with the goal to uplift and support poets in the Los Angeles community and beyond. Since the organization was founded in fall of 2017, it has served 100+ students and has a current alumni number of 42.
* This event will have an ASL interpreter.
